What moves the fee
- Scope
- One crack is cheaper than the whole structure: Structural Surveys publishes £395 for a specific defect and £495 to £725 for a full structural survey.
- Size
- A flat or terrace costs less than a large detached house, because the inspection takes longer.
- VAT
- Most engineers quote plus VAT at 20%; some fees include it. Compare like with like.
- Monitoring
- If movement may be ongoing, crack monitoring over weeks or months is a separate fee.
Published fees are what each firm advertises on its own page, read on 28 October 2026; they are not a quote for your property.
